Among them are Dr. Roscoe C. Brown, Dr. George Washington Carver, Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, James Weldon Johnson, Langston Hughes, Richard Wright, Ralph Ellison, Dr. Calvin O. Butts, Paul Robeson, Malcolm X, Arthur Schomburg, Percy Sutton, Judge James L. Watson Jr. and Fire Chief Wesley Williams. Among the popular stars of stage, television and film who have been active in the YMCA's Little Theater are Earth Kitt, Sidney Poitier, Roscoe Lee Brown, Isabelle Sanford, Cicely Tyson, and Roslyn Cash. Once held """"Salute to the Stars"""" concerts featured such artists as Nat King Cole, Harry Belafonte, Johnny Mathis, Nina Simone and Sammy Davis Jr. Other important events include the Black Achievers in Industry Awards Dinner, developed and nurtured by the late Carrie Terrell, which became a major source of revenue for funding youth programs at the Harlem YMCA.
